PICS: UNIUYO PROTEST LEAVES STUDENTS DEAD

Today, as Akwa Ibom plays host to Dame Patience Jonathan,
wife of the President of Nigeria to flag off the African Women Leaders
Conference, between three to six students of the University of Uyo have died as
a result of spray bullets by officers of the Nigerian Police while trying to
calm a protest by the students earlier today.
As Uniuyo resumes second semester only to spring a surprise
to the faculty of science students that their lecture venue has been moved to
the Uniuyo permanent site.
The science faculty students living in the school hostel has been thrown out of the school hostel.
Meanwhile, the school bus is the alternative for transportation for students staying off-camp and the school said that each student has to pay one hundred naira before using the school bus that was initially free.
The students who became angry, and protested, blocked the ikot ekpene/ ikpa road axis of Uyo.
Due to this, the police came to calm the situation only to inflict more pain and shot one student down dead, and there have been duel of gunshot for hours now.
The students have taking laws into their hands by planting petrol bomb inside the school just to set it on fire... starting with the school gate. Thank God for the security officials who are trying their possible best to stop this operation restore peace to the school community and Uyo metropolis. Students residing in the hostels have since been evicted, and the school hostels shut down.
