A Good Day to Die Hard (February 14th)
A Good Day to Die Hard is going to come out in theaters in 2013. This time, instead of being nestled not-so-safe at home in America, we find John McClane (Bruce Willis) in Russia out of all places, destroying half of the place with his now grown-up son Jack (Jai Courtney). If you’re a fan of the series then you’ve probably already drooled over the trailer a few times. Plus that and you know you’d rather watch an awesome action movie than some cheesy chick flick on Valentine’s Day.

The Last Stand (January 18th)
Arnold Schwarzenegger is back! Okay, so we saw him this past summer in The Expendables 2, but this is Schwarzenegger’s first starring role since he finished his term as California’s governor. The Last Stand is also director Jee-woon Kim’s first American movie which looks littered with all sorts of action for our eyeballs to digest.

Pain and Gain (April 26th)
After most of the world sat down and watched Iron Man 2, they tried to forget what they saw. It was a sad downgrade from Iron Man and it made a lot of us sad. When Marvel Studios announced that they were beginning production on Iron Man 3, a lot of us shrugged our shoulders and carried on with our lives. Then the dramatic first trailer hit which basically said in big bold letters “We apologize for Iron Man 2. Here’s something better for you to watch instead.” Yeah, we’re sold.

Fast and Furious 6 (May 24th)

If you saw Fast Five then you more than likely mentally purchased your ticket for Fast and Furious 6 after the movie ended. The franchise finally figured out how they should be approaching these movies, and that’s with as much action and light cheese as possible. We hope the sequel has more of the same, and just more of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It’s The Rock man.
This Is The End (June 14th)
Want to see a bunch of your favorite actors/celebrities trash talk each other while trying to survive the apocalypse? Well that’s exactly what This Is the End happens to be. The upcoming Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen directed picture brings a number of our favorite comedians and actors under the same roof as a party abruptly ends due to the end of the world. The first trailer seems pretty funny, so we’ll check it out when it rolls around.
Monsters University (June 21st)
Pixar has been an animation power house since the mid nineties, and has a wonderful collection of films to prove it. Right now we’re in Pixar’s transitional period as they throw out more softballs for films, at times leaving movie-goers suddenly unimpressed with the company. While some argue Pixar’s glory days are behind them, we’d like to think that a spark of them is still around in their latest picture Monsters University. The animation comedy is a prequel, centering once again on the lovable duo Mike and Sully during the early, shaky days of their friendship. The first snippets of footage didn’t show us much, but we’ll give this movie a try for sure. Come on, it’s Pixar we’re talking about.
Kick-Ass 2 (June 28th)
The first Kick-Ass movie is great. It was hilarious, bloody and filled with great performances by Nicholas Cage, Chloe Grace Moretz and Aaron Johnson. You can imagine people’s anticipation meters for Kick-Ass 2 is crazy high right now, especially since the Mark Millar comic sequel is already out in stores everywhere. If you read the sequel, you know it’s going to be even more over-the-top than the previous one, and we can’t wait.
White House Down (June 28th)
There are two movies dealing with the President being put under attack by terrorists this year, but White House Down is the one that deserves our attention the most. First, it’s a Roland Emmerich film so you know that there’ll be explosions and the sort all over the place. Second, the cast. Jamie Foxx is playing the president while Channing Tatum is the badass Secret Service agent who has to take down an entire terrorist group in order to save the ruler of the free world. That’s it. I’m seeing this at midnight on opening night.
Despicable Me 2 (July 3rd)
You have to have at least one animated movie on this list. The first Despicable Me movie was really adorable, dealing with the struggle of being a villain or a hero. Now we’ll see Gru again with his trio of children in Despicable Me 2. We’re not entirely sure how everything is going to be for Gru and the gang, but we’re still look forward to seeing it.
Pacific Rim (July 12th)
The apocalypse is cancelled, and for good reason. If we had an apocalypse then we wouldn’t be able to bask in the awesome majesty that is Guillermo del Toro’s latest movie Pacific Rim. Each day many of us get on our knees and pray that we’ll get a spectacular movie that involves both aliens and robots. Thankfully, our prayers have been answered. July 12th can’t come soon enough.
The Wolverine (July 26th)
Okay, so X-Men Origins: Wolverine wasn’t a great movie at all, but The Wolverine looks promising. They’re throwing Logan (Hugh Jackman) back in Japan where he’ll encounter The Silver Samurai and other familiar characters from the X-Men comics. James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line) is directing the picture.
You’re Next (August 23rd)
Finally! You have no idea how incredibly happy a few of us are to see You’re Next pop up in theaters. The picture first made it’s appearance last year on the festival circuit and has been waiting in the wings to get a theatrical release until now. The story is witty, making fun of the horror genre to a degree and still contains a good amount of gore for those of you who like that in your horror films.
The Little Mermaid 3D (September 13th)
This is only on the list because this is one of my favorite movies ever. Go see The Little Mermaid 3D when it’s re-released in theaters, because this reporter will as well.
Rush (September 20th)
Ron Howard is sitting back in the director’s chair once again, starting off the Oscar buzz-filled fall season with Rush. The film is based off the life of Formula 1 racer Niki Lauda and has been talked about for a long while, especially when a couple of tabloids mistook a wedding scene between stars Chris Hemsworth and Olivia Wilde to be real. Whoops. Well, at least it sparked more people’s interest in seeing the movie.
The Tomb (September 27th)
The names Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are pretty much synonymous with action movies made within the eighties to early nineties. They were the two it-men of action films. Now the two stars are popping back up in a number of action films. Did we mention they’re co-starring in an upcoming action film called The Tomb? Because you need to know this. The chance to see these two share the big screen for more than five minutes? Yes please.
Sin City: A Dame To Kill For (October 4th)
It took you long enough Robert Rodriguez! Fans of the comic and the 2005 movie have been waiting impatiently for Robert Rodriguez, Frank Miller and company to start production on Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Now it’s finally a reality. While they haven’t revealed the full cast list, especially as to who will play the femme fatale Ava and Dwight pre-face change, it easily is one of the most anticipated comic book movies for 2013. Fingers crossed it’s actually ready by this date.
The World’s End (October 25th)
Christmas has come early! The present that we’re happy about is the fact that we’ll finally get to see Edgar Wright‘s latest movie The World’s End at this point in time. The director’s latest movie deals with the one topic that has been on our minds as of late: the end of the world. A simple pub crawl between a group of friends turns into a journey of survival. We’ve been teased with the first official photo just a couple of days ago, now give us some footage!
Ender’s Game (November 1st)
All of you who’ve read the Orson Scott Card novel Ender’s Game knows that audiences are going to be in for some great sci-fi drama. The picture has a nice young cast, headed by seasoned actor Harrison Ford. If you’re a fan of the novel, then this movie is more than likely on your list of films to watch.
Thor: The Dark World (November 8th)
We’re dealing with Asgard post-The Avengers, so does that mean we’ll see Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and company deal with more alien creatures? Of course. In November we’ll be seeing Hemsworth duke it out against Malekith, played by Christopher Eccleston which some of you may know from Doctor Who. For his appearance alone a number of us, including myself, want to see Thor: The Dark World immediately.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (November 22nd)
When Lionsgate was first making The Hunger Games, a fair number of folk didn’t think much of the movie. They were already shoving it off as some Twilight wannabe, but then everyone saw it and immediately changed their tune. Now The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is easily one of the most anticipated mainstream movies coming out this fall. In the sequel we see the strings of the government holding each district together falling apart, creating a rebellion due to Katniss Everdeen’s (Jennifer Lawrence) actions in the last Hunger Games. As a result, her and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) are forced to play again in a special edition of the deadly game. Now aren’t you glad you get to look forward to a YA novel turned movie franchise in November that has an actually strong heroine? We are too.
Frozen (November 27th)
Every once in awhile Disney will pull a really interesting animated movie out of their sleeve, one they’ve been hiding for awhile. At the end of 2012 they surprised us with Frozen, a cool animated film that centers on two people trying to put a stop to the Snow Queen and her endless winter. The House of Mouse has definitely been impressing us with their most recent animated movies (Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph) and we hope this is yet another film to add to that sweet list.
Anchorman: The Legend Continues (December 20th)
We first fell in love with the scotch-loving loudmouth Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) years ago in Anchorman, but now we’ll be able to further bask in the mustached glory of the San Diego anchor in the highly anticipated sequel. Don’t worry, the whole gang is expected to return in Anchorman: The Legend Continues, including a few new people to the roster. If you haven’t yet, check out the first teaser trailer for the upcoming comedy.
47 Ronin (December 25th)
It feels like 47 Ronin is just one of those films that was simmering in development for so long that you had no idea when it’d climb into production, if ever. Based off the 1941 movie of the same name, 47 Ronin is about a group of samurai who seek revenge on those who killed their master. This has been a passion project of actor Keanu Reeves‘ that had a hard time lifting itself up off the ground until recent so we’re glad to see it’s finally going to be in theaters.
Jack Ryan (December 25th)
And so we end off the year with a little pinch of Jack Ryan. Chris Pine stars as the popular Tom Clancy character in Jack Ryan, directed by Kenneth Branagh surprisingly enough. Pine is the fourth actor to play Jack Ryan, the previous actors being Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Alec Baldwin. Will Chris Pine be able to fill those big shoes? Perhaps, which is why we want to see this when it comes out on Christmas Day.
